Countdown to the 2019 iREP Film Festival

Founded in 2010 and now in its 9th edition, the annual iREPRESENT (iREP) Film Festival will this year be held in Lagos from 21 to 24 March, keeping in with its tradition of attracting the brightest minds in film from the African continent and beyond. Since its inception, iREP’s mission has been to celebrate the best of African documentary film.

Over 30 international documentaries have been selected for the festival in accordance with this year’s theme “Africa in Self-Conversation”. Over the years, the festival has been pivotal in creating a thriving networking space for individuals in the industry in one of the continent’s biggest movie-producing countries.

Alongside documentary screenings, iREP will also host a pitch forum for documentary makers to present their non-fictional film project ideas. The festival will also have a training workshop in partnership with the Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC), plenary discussions and presentations.

This year’s guests include renowned Nigerian filmmaker Tunde Kelani, Nigerian professor, playwright and actor Awam Amkpa, and Brian Larkin, professor of Anthropology at Barnard College in Columbia, New York.

Among the keynote speakers is American professor, author and documentary filmmaker Jonathan Haynes, and Nigerian professor and author Paul Ugor. Award-winning Nigerian filmmaker Femi Odugbemi is also among the festival co-founders and directors, and is currently the MultiChoice Talent Factory Academy West Africa director.

Attendees can expect films from Ghana, Mozambique, Cape Verde, USA, Madagascar, Germany, Rwanda, Nigeria and Kenya and more.

The festival is free to attend, and film screenings at the festival will happen at Freedom Park, and at the Nigerian Film Corporation in Ikoyi. The selection of films is also in conjunction with iREP’s co-curating partners African World Documentary Film Festival (AWDFF), AGDOK, and German Documentaries.
