25-year-old Sarah Severin Kimario works as a system engineer and software developer but dreams of being a successful scriptwriter and director. She is excited about learning from Njoki Muhoho, the eastern Africa Academy Director, who is an award-winning producer as well as a feature film and series script writer. “Now that I have met her, read about who she is, what she has done and continues to do for the industry, I look up to her and I hope to learn a lot from her,” said Sarah. She understands the power and potential of a good script, “Friends is my favourite TV series because the scriptwriters created wonderful character and made it so easy for us to laugh even though the actors lived normal lives and did normal everyday things.”
Reading Think Big: Unleashing Your Potential for Excellence by Ben Carson – which is one of her favourite books – made her realise that she has a story to tell and that she might inspire others through the way in which she overcame her childhood struggles. If Sarah were to create a TV series of her own it would be an educational family comedy series “because I love to educate all ages and I love it when people laugh and enjoy the process of learning,” she said.
Sarah hopes that by sharing her creativity – she also sings, raps and records music – she can help take Africa’s entertainment industry to the next level. She also hopes that her contribution will help provide socio-economic development across the continent.
