Born in Lagos and based in Abuja, 25-year-old Julie Ako is a writer and creative director. With a B.Sc in Computer Science from the University of Benin, Julie is an avid reader and TV and film watcher.
With the ambition to be a “fulltime filmmaker, working across Africa and telling stories that truly matters to the world”, Julie attributes her love for video entertainment to Nigerian film and TV industry creatives such as producer Victor Sanchez Aghahowa and filmmaker Abba Makama. “They represent the new wave of African film and they are unapologetically different, smart and pushing boundaries, and have been very pivotal to my personal growth in the industry.”
Hoping to one day join the ranks of those who inspire her, says she is excited to make an indelible impact on Africa's video entertainment industry, “My presence in film will bolster representation of women in films, add emphasis on heroism and reward, and tap into untold stories.”
