“I am passionate about creating a platform that tells the African story in all its forms,” says emerging and ambitious creative Sally Ndapandula Jason. Born in Luderitz, Namibia, 26-year-old Sally is a radio and digital presenter, social media coordinator and freelance master of ceremonies.
“At the Multichoice Talent Factory, I’m hoping to gain the skills necessary to create quality content. More specifically learn how to package my product well enough to sell,” says freelance filmmaker Esther Tasha Utjiwa Beukes from Windhoek, Namibia, who has a certificate in television and film production. With a dream of becoming a world renowned director, if Esther could create a TV show it would be “an African Food Travel Documentary showcasing African Culture and sharing our diversity”.
Ludmila “Mila” da Gloria Mero is a 26-year-old television programme producer from Sofala Province, Mozambique. “I want to be a recognised filmmaker”, says Mila and aspires to “create a Mozambican soap opera, which addresses matters of public interest and educate people”. Looking forward to making a name for herself in the film industry by joining the Multichoice Talent Factory, Mila hopes to learn a lot from the academy especially “about the intricacies of the business of production and how that connects to the different functions of film”.
“The future of Africa’s film industry is heading in the right direction,” says emerging Malawian videographer Jonathan Kapumba. “So far I have seen individuals using Red cameras and Black Magic cameras and serious directing especially in film industries in South African productions and Nollywood.” Dreaming of one day becoming a director of photography and documentary maker, 27-year-old Jonathan is hoping to one day create a short documentary film called Bridging, showcasing talent amongst the youth in Malawi with the aim of bridging the gaps between the youth and their ambitions.
Chimwemwe Mkwezalamba is a 21-year-old future filmmaker and leader passionate about women’s empowerment. “My dream career is being a successful and famous female film director,” says the Lilongwe, Malawi-born creative. Despite an education background in banking and project management, Chimmy, as she is nicknamed, is excited about a future in the creative arts. “At the Multichoice Talent Factory, I look forward to learning from the best creatives on the continent with the hope that one day I will be able to contribute to the African film industry.”
