Nigeria’s modern fashion industry is still young and growing, even though the art of stringing beautiful pieces of textile together with a needle and thread to make clothes is as old as the country’s history. Decades ago, Nigeria had a relatively booming textile sector which ultimately positioned the country’s fashion industry as a potentially viable money-spinner. But, like many other promising industries in the developing nation, progress died down with the oil boom and the eventual takeover of the textile sector by the Chinese.

Zimbabwe’s screen acting powerhouse Emmanuel Mbirimi has gone to be with the Lord aged 65. A gentle soul and great talent, he entered eternal rest while being treated at a private hospital in Harare. Although Mr Mbirimi, as we referred to him, had been battling ill health for a while, the news of his passing shook us to the core with memories of our last production together The Letter in August 2019 still fresh in my mind.

The COVID-19 coronavirus claimed another planned convention Wednesday with the postponement of the National Association of Broadcasters convention, scheduled for late April in Las Vegas. The show is one of the biggest conventions held in Las Vegas with dozens of exhibitors in attendance who create a wide variety of products that work with Apple equipment, including Blackmagic Designs, Avid, Adobe, Telestream, Microsoft, Boris FX, Pansonic, Canon, and Sony.

A NEW film that is part of International Women’s Day commemorations and explores sexual abuse of women in the film industry will be pre-screened at Alliance Francaise in Harare. The film, titled Tsitsi and produced by The Kumran Production Arts & Media Production, would be screened before selected women ahead of its grand premiere at a Ster Kinekor cinema on a date yet to be announced.
