With 21-year-old David Senkwe of Lusaka, Zambia, working as a visual artist and having a deep passion for drawing, it’s hardly surprising that he believes the success of any great film depends on the standard of its cinematography.

In fact, this is an area he is hoping to formally develop during his time at the MultiChoice Talent Factory (MTF) Academy.

“I want to develop professional film skills that will help to empower both me as a person and in the future, Africa's movie industry. I want to make a positive contribution around helping filmmakers to tell Africa’s stories, as well as add to the growing body of cinematography skills on the continent,” says David, who ultimately wants to start his own film production company.

He is aware of the critical shortage of support for young African filmmakers, and would like to one day use his skills to help bridge this gap. “I would like to be involved in providing film literacy to young creatives and in engaging them through competitions for storytelling and film production,” David explains.

He is inspired by Frank Sibbuku because of his “creative way of telling stories” and enjoys the works of African creatives Kupita Nyong'o, Idris Elba, Cosmas Ngandwe and Leo Simukoko.
