Antony Mwangi Njoroge has aspirations of becoming Kenya’s greatest filmmaker. The theoretical knowledge and practical experience he will learn during the year-long MultiChoice Talent Factory will help him become just that!

The 24-year-old journalism and media graduate is also passionate about photography, creativity and innovation. One day he dreams of creating The Legend TV show.

“I have researched the newest holographic reflection technology and I would like to bring such a show to Africa for the first time. It will bring back to life our African legends, so that we can celebrate them in style,” he explains.

Antony deeply admires Kenyan film director Jim Chuchu for his bravery, “He does not fear telling the real-life stories of our lives,” he explains. While Chuchu’s anthology of short films entitled Stories of Our Lives was banned in Kenya, it premiered at the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival. Antony believes that these are the authentic kinds of stories films should tell. In his spare time, he volunteers to film some of the stories written by primary school pupils, so as to give back to the community and provide an outlet for their creative expression.

He hopes that MTF will help him master the art of scriptwriting and refine his eye to produce the best films in Kenya. He believes that it will help young Africans capitalise on their talents and focus on the quality of their films rather than just profits. If they want to start out, “I tell people that the smartphone can be a start-up camera from there you can get other equipment.”
