Sonia ‘Loudspeaker’ Nwosu is a 23-year-old writer whose dream is to become a movie director and screenwriter.

Born in Imo, Nigeria, what fires her up about Africa’s creative industry are the untapped opportunities, as well as the talent diversity of African stories.

For Sonia, a great script and story are what make for a good film, and one of her goals is to create stories that resonates with Africans.

“I want to make movies that embody African ideals. I want to create stories that resonate with Africans, and [for] my stories to be an accurate mirror through which [others] can see and appreciate the Africa we live in,” says Sonia.

Her favourite films are The Dark Knight Trilogyand Begin Again, and her favourite actor is American Mark Ruffalo, particularly because of his aptitude to embody the characters he plays. She is also a big fan of English actress Keira Knightley and American actress Sandra Bullock.

Her favourite African film stars include Nigerian actresses Nse Ikpe Etim and Joke Silva, as well as Nigerian actors Olu Jacobs and Wale Ojo.

If Sonia could create a TV show, it would be a coming-of-age story of a young girl chosen to embody the spirit of an orisha and has to learn accept the responsibility. This is all while balancing being a young adult, school, boys, parents and religion.

During her tenure at the MultiChoice Talent Factory Academy, she hopes to gain enough practical knowledge to become a fully-equipped superhero storyteller of African stories.
