Born in Luanda, Angola emerging filmmaker and graphic designer Emanuel Antonio dos Santos Gonçalves, aka Antonio, dreams to one day become a film director. As one of the chosen candidates for the Multichoice Talent Factory in Southern Africa, he is well on his way. “I am very excited to be a part of the programme, and am looking forward to obtaining enough knowledge to enable myself to soar in the industry.” Highlighting the challenges in the film and TV industry, such as a lack of investment in film, Antonia hopes to tackle this obstacle by being resourceful. “I am a DIY type of person, so whenever there is a barrier it is always important to overcome it with a simpler approach or ask for help to those who can provide us with the necessary tools.”

Passionate about graphic design and programming, Antonia has a degree in Business Information Systems from the International University of Management Namíbia. And is looking forward to using his many talents to add to Africa’s creative economy. “It is such a motivation knowing that there is still a lot to do in the creative industry in Africa - either in film, television or any other creative area. There are so many African stories to be told, so much of the culture to be shown! So being involved in the creative industry in Africa is a great opportunity to succeed.”
