Despite studying logistics and transport management, Wilson Everready Nkya is doing everything in his power to follow his heart and passions. Today, he works as a TV personality, blogger and dancer – it’s a good thing that he is a confident public speaker. The 23-year-old Tanzanian wants to become an actor and has much respect for Lupita Nyong’o because “apart from the fact that she is from east Africa, like myself, she has shown how hard work pays off and that our dreams are valid”.

Wilson believes that Tanzanian actor Idris Sultan will be the next big thing to hi the Tanzanian movie scene because “I see him investing in his craft day by day.” And that is what he believes it takes to be successful in such a competitive industry.

“Africa’s creative industries have the potential to grow faster than they are developing at the moment, if only we see them as one of the backbones of our African economies” and dedicate ourselves to unequivocally produce professional and high-quality work.

Through programmes such as they year-long MTF, he hopes to acquire the professional skills and vital hands-on knowledge that, combined with his passion and dedication, will help him advance the African film industry. “I am looking forward to being equipped with the best tools by my academy director to be able to transform and revolutionise the video entertainment industry in my country and Africa,” he says. As an insider into the industry he believes that it lacks investment, not just financial investment, but an investment of talent.
